Process Engineer- Injection Molding

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

The Process Engineer – Injection Molding is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of tooling, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This role will lead process optimization efforts, troubleshoot molding issues, and oversee tooling projects to enhance quality, safety, production efficiency, and profitability. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to support the plant’s manufacturing operations.

The Technical & CI Manager fulfills the responsibilities of this role when vacant.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process Optimization & Troubleshooting
    • Drive process optimization and troubleshooting of injection molding operations, ensuring quality and efficiency.
    • Implement scientific molding principles (RJG, decoupled molding, process tracking tools) to improve consistency and reliability.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve product quality and production issues stemming from mold and assembly process design.
    • Develop, document, and update standard work instructions and process validation to improve performance and reduce variability.
  • Mold Tooling & Equipment Management
    • Manage injection mold tooling projects from design to production, including fabrication, validation, and transfer.
    • Supervise Mold Maintenance Technicians, ensuring proactive mold maintenance and optimizing component life.
    • Oversee mold repair programs, working with QA teams to validate repairs and schedule necessary maintenance.
    • Support installation, start-up, and troubleshooting of new equipment and tooling.
    • Assist in new equipment validation, including writing and executing validation documents.
  • Quality Control & Continuous Improvement
    • Ensure manufacturing processes meet GMP, food safety, and quality control standards.
    • Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to drive process enhancements.
    • Identify and resolve defects in individual part processes and optimize tooling for better production outcomes.
    • Review production and operating reports to address inefficiencies and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Technical Support & Training
    • Provide technical expertise to Maintenance, Engineering, and Production teams.
    • Track tooling from removal to installation, assisting in setup and repairs as needed.
    • Identify training needs and coordinate skill development for Mold Maintenance Technicians.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain detailed process documentation for molding operations and tooling changes.
    • Utilize process tracking tools to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Prepare reports and recommendations to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

 

YOU BRING THESE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

EDUCATION:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, six (6) to eight (8) years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on injection molding.

  • Process Tracking & Manufacturing Execution Systems
