SQF Coordinator
SUMMARY OF ROLE
COMPENSATION: $70k-$87k
Location: Northlake, Illinois
SQF Coordinator is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the plant’s QMS. This role ensures that quality processes comply with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001, SQF, HACCP, among others) and internal requirements. The SQF Coordinator plays a key role in data analysis, document control, audit readiness, and supporting cross-functional compliance initiatives. The SQF Coordinator also assists in food safety planning, monitoring, and verification activities to ensure product integrity and consumer protection.

- Maintain and update the QMS and Food Safety Management System (FSMS), including policies, procedures, records, and manuals (e.g., HACCP Plan, PRPs, CCP monitoring).
- Ensure alignment with standards such as ISO 9001, SQF, HACCP and FDA/FSMA requirements.
- Support investigations related to food safety incidents, non-conformances, and deviations.
- Lead and expand upon the QMS system with a strong emphasis on Food Safety by establishing/strengthening a Food Safety/Quality Culture
- Lead or assist in risk assessment, root cause analysis (RCA) and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to eliminate food safety risks.
- Monitor and analyze food safety and quality performance indicators (e.g., foreign material incidents, temperature logs, allergen control, microbiological monitoring, among others).
- Coordinate document control processes, including versioning, approvals, and archiving.
- Generate regular QMS & Food Safety dashboards and management review reports.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing the required documentation and evidence and ensuring that audit observations are logged and followed up with timely corrective actions.
- Ensure all personnel are trained in QMS & Food Safety processes and updates, maintaining training records and supporting QMS-related onboarding activities.
- Assist in identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance QMS efficiency and compliance.
- Benchmark QMS practices and suggest improvements aligned with industry standards.
YOU BRING THESE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Minimum of 3 years required; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Quality or Continous Improvement
- Higher Education degree in Engineering (Chemical, Food, Production)
- Advanced HACCP leader
- Lead the audits and requirements’ implementation
- Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.
- Develop and maintain quality standards, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions to ensure consistent product and process performance
- Management of information and indicators for decision making and presentation of results
- Advanced knowledge of quality management system (QMS)
- Communicate technical information and data-driven insights effectively across cross-functional teams and leadership
- Demonstrate deep process expertise to optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure operational consistency
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., Kepner-Tregoe) to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
- Support product and service scale-up from pilot to full production, ensuring quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Plan and execute projects, managing scope, timelines, risks, and resources to achieve business objectives
- Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools to monitor variation, maintain process stability, and drive improvements
- Information management, generation of KPIs and presentations
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to eliminate waste, reduce variation, and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead, coach, and develop teams to foster collaboration, accountability, and high performance
