Head of Operations
The Head of Operations, BIB & SP USA is a critical strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing end-to-end operational performance across SIG’s U.S. manufacturing footprint. This includes four sites—Northlake (IL), Merced (CA), Chilhowie (VA), and Peachtree (GA)—along with functional responsibility for Supply Chain, Quality, and Safety.
The role is accountable for delivering operational excellence in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people, ensuring alignment with SIG’s global standards and long-term business objectives. Working through Plant Managers and functional leaders, the Head of Operations drives cross-plant coordination, capability building, and continuous improvement, securing the competitiveness and sustainability of U.S. operations.
Strategic Capacity & Resource Planning
- Develop and manage capacity plans aligned with customer demand and budget targets.
- Proactively evaluate assumptions to prevent overcapacity or underutilization.
- Collaborate with global counterparts to maximize network-wide manufacturing efficiency.
- Define, track, and optimize KPIs across all sites using SPQDC (Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, Cost) metrics.
Safety & Risk Prevention
- Champion a proactive safety culture across all sites.
- Ensure each facility maintains fully trained emergency response teams and up-to-date protocols.
- Establish and monitor annual safety goals aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements.
Financial Control & Cost Optimization
- Partner with Finance to build and manage site and functional budgets.
- Enforce robust internal controls and drive cost-reduction and waste-elimination initiatives.
- Benchmark performance with SIG’s global network and implement best practices for productivity gains.
Global Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Represent U.S. operations in global forums and strategic discussions.
- Promote cross-site collaboration and knowledge-sharing to enhance consistency and efficiency.
- Balance local operational needs with regional and global business priorities.
Maintenance & Asset Reliability
- Drive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability.
- Optimize spare parts inventory to balance availability and cost.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety and quality requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Implementation
- Lead deployment of the SIG Excellence System (SES) and other lean tools.
- Monitor impact of CI projects and embed a culture of sustainable improvement.
- Foster innovation and data-driven problem solving across all levels.
People Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead and develop a high-performing operations team across plants and functions.
- Champion talent development, succession planning, and a culture of accountability and ownership.
- Act as a mentor and role model, reinforcing SIG leadership competencies and values.
Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
- Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations and SIG sustainability goals.
- Lead initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, minimize waste, and improve resource efficiency.
- Embed ESG awareness and ownership across all operations teams.
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce GMP and quality system standards to ensure safe, compliant, and customer-ready packaging.
- Lead quality governance to drive zero-defect culture and improve customer satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with internal standards and customer-specific requirements.
End-to-End Supply Chain Leadership
- Oversee supply chain operations including procurement, production planning, logistics, and distribution.
- Ensure OTIF (on-time, in-full) delivery performance and efficient material flow.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve forecasting, inventory, and responsiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations, preferably in manufacturing or packaging
- Proven success in multi-site operational leadership and transformation initiatives
Skills & Competencies
- Fluent in English (Spanish a strong plus)
- Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Advanced project management and continuous improvement (Lean/Six Sigma) skills
- Deep understanding of risk analysis, quality tools, and compliance standards
- Excellent people leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities
