Tooling Technician

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

The Tooling Technician is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and

repair of machines.   The Tooling Technician is responsible for the repair, reconditioning

and fabrication of all custom parts utilized on the bag making equipment. This position

will support continuous improvement activities through the development and fabrication

of components to improve safety, process reliability or eliminate scrap. The Tooling 

Supervisor will fulfill the responsibilities of this role when vacant.

 

Location: Merced, CA

Pay Range: $23.50 – $33.50/hour

FLSA Status: Hourly

                       

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Disassembles and reassembles injection molds and hot runner systems.

•   Performs mold changes.

•   Performs routine preventative maintenance activities.

•   Repairs water leaks as necessary.

•   Monitors and analyzes injection mold tooling wear and spare parts usage.

•   Reworks broken or worn parts as required.

•   Maintains records of work performed.

•   Understands injection molding process.

•   Operates tool room equipment (Lathes, mills, grinders, vertical and horizontal cut off saws)

•   Uses various measuring instruments (calipers, dial indicators and micrometers)

•   Forklift and overhead crane experience.

•   Uses electrical measuring tools (digital or analog voltmeter).

•   Demonstrates the ability to use hand tools for the Mold Department.

•   Works from drawings, verbal instruction or sketches.

•   Uses basic math skills as required.

•   Continuously works towards improving safety, quality, productivity, and reducing scrap.

•   Supervises project as well as performs technical lead roles.

•   Responsible for overseeing food safety.

 

YOU BRING THESE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE AND/OR SKILLS:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a maintenance capacity in an industrial/manufacturing/machine shop environment or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance several projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with minimum instruction and monitoring.
  • Able to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Basic understanding of purchasing practices.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and high level of conduct.
  • Overtime, weekend, and holiday work mandatory when required.
  • Good verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to provide written well documented reports for internal and external Customers.
  • Strong Math aptitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft office – (Power Point /Excel/ Word/Outlook)
  • Knowledge of various types of metals and properties.
  • Assembly building and prototyping a plus
  • Ability to work with and understand AC and DC voltage
  • Work from plans and specifications
  • Work with limited supervision, follow oral and written instructions
  • Form and maintain effective working relationships with others
