You could be our next Customs Compliance Manager! 

The Customs Compliance Manager ensures the proper implementation of customs-related processes and legal requirements for import and export activities. This role serves as the primary contact for customs authorities, maintaining, extending, and re-issuing trade relief authorizations for third-country trade.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for customs-relevant processes for the SIG Europe organization (Germany) in collaboration with GTC.
  • Organize, process, and monitor customs and foreign trade-related activities within the company.
  • Prepare work and organizational instructions related to customs procedures and technologies.
  • Apply for, maintain, and secure necessary approvals and simplifications for customs operations.
  • Improve and ensure the efficiency and accuracy of customs procedures.
  • Oversee the origin of goods and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Communicate with offices and authorities, such as customs, IHK, and Destatis.
  • Organize import clearances to ensure smooth and compliant operations.
  • Review customs duty notices and import invoices, ensuring corrections for any inaccuracies in declarations.
  • Conduct audits of customs-relevant areas in Europe, particularly in Germany.
  • Manage inward processing for aluminum shipments to comply with all regulations.
  • Handle relevant CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) reporting.

 

Requirements

 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs compliance, import/export operations, or a related field.
    • Proven experience working with German customs authorities and managing customs-related processes.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of German customs regulations, import/export laws, and international trade agreements.
    • Familiarity with customs software and systems (e.g., SAP GTS, ATLAS).
    • Experience with inward processing procedures and CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) reporting.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Competencies:
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling complex documentation and processes.
    • Ability to develop and implement work and organizational instructions related to customs technologies.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing regulations and requirements.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with customs authorities and internal stakeholders.
    • Ability to conduct audits and identify areas for improvement in customs compliance processes.
  • Language Skills:
    • Proficient command of English, both written and verbal.
    • Proficiency in German is a must have
